About the Chicago Jewish Historical Society
The society was established in 1977 as a direct result of the interest generated by "My Brother's Keeper," the Jewish exhibit marking the American Bicentennial at the Museum of Science and Industry.
Our heritage in Chicago began with the arrival of four Jewish pioneers in 1841. Within five years the first synagogue was a reality. It served as the foundation for spiritual, organizational and community involvement in the on-going Chicago Jewish experience.
